Chet Lowe

Senior Pastor of Calvary LIFE Church & Author

Chet Lowe’s story starts in the Bahamas, where he was born into a Christian home. His parents, Ira and Pam Lowe were people of faith who practiced what they believed, shaping their household around trust in God and service to others. From a young age, Chet observed their quiet strength and compassion, which left a strong impression on him.

That early exposure to faith didn’t remain theoretical for long. At just seven years old, Chet sensed a personal call to ministry. His response was simple but heartfelt—he organized a Vacation Bible School in his parents’ garage. It was a modest effort, but for Chet, it marked the beginning of a life devoted to serving others through the Gospel.

He grew up alongside his siblings, Susan and Matthew, who contributed to the rhythm of family life and shared values that would continue to influence Chet’s choices in the years ahead.

Discovering Purpose Through Early Missions

As a teenager, Chet began to act on the sense of calling he had felt as a child. At thirteen, he traveled on a church mission trip to South Korea, where he helped build a church. The following year, he participated in another mission to Liberia, working on constructing a school. These experiences away from home further clarified his purpose. He understood that ministry wasn’t confined to one place or people group—it was meant to meet people wherever they were.

In 1994, Chet married Andrea. Their shared commitment to faith created a strong foundation for their future. Just one year into their marriage, they made a life-changing decision. Despite the risks, they moved to Liberia, which was in the midst of a violent civil war, taking their newborn child with them. For Chet and Andrea, the danger did not outweigh the need. They had chosen to be present where others were suffering.

Service amid Conflict

Chet and Andrea’s time in Liberia was defined by challenge, sacrifice, and purpose. They committed to building the Church and serving the vulnerable during the conflict. They helped plant 17 churches during their years there, establishing faith communities in areas where hope was in short supply.

One of their most impactful efforts was Joseph’s Brethren, a ministry focused on rescuing and supporting children caught in the war—many of whom had been used as soldiers. The ministry placed over 1,500 children into foster homes and care centers. Through seven rehabilitation centers, these children were allowed to find safety, begin recovery, and reclaim their lives.

As their ministry grew, so did their family. In addition to the children born before they moved, two more children were born during their time in Liberia. Upon returning to the United States, they welcomed two more biological children and extended their family even further through adoption and spiritual mentorship. Their home became an environment of welcome, shaped by love and faith.

A Return and Continued Ministry

After leaving Liberia, Chet and his family returned to the United States, where he joined Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale staff. Having been a church member for 15 years, he stepped into leadership roles that allowed him to serve in various ministries, including those focused on couples, singles, parents, missions, and foster care.

To better support individuals through personal and spiritual challenges, Chet pursued a Master’s degree in Christian Counseling. This equipped him to care for people through teaching, listening, guidance, and presence. He understood that much of ministry happens outside of formal services—in conversations, relationships, and moments of walking together through life’s challenges.

In 2005, Chet founded Patmos: Reality Discipleship, a program to help young adults grow in their faith and character. The ministry expanded beyond Florida to include California, Brazil, El Salvador, and the Bahamas. For Chet, one particularly meaningful outcome of Patmos was a deep relationship that developed with one participant, who became like a spiritual son. The experience broadened his view of family, showing how discipleship can forge lifelong connections.

Walking Through Grief

In 2011, Chet faced profound personal loss. His younger brother, a Navy Lieutenant, died in a plane crash at the age of 33. In the years that followed, he also lost his father and his uncle. These were difficult moments filled with pain. But Chet remained committed to his calling. Rather than retreating, he continued walking with others through their seasons of loss and challenge, drawing on his experience to serve with empathy and resolve.

A New Path in California

In 2015, Chet sensed that a new season was beginning. He and his family moved to Southern California, where he accepted the lead pastor position at Coast Hills Church in Aliso Viejo. There, he worked to bring renewal and clarity to the church community, guiding them through change and growth.

In 2021, a new opportunity came when Pastor Jeff Gill stepped down from Calvary Chapel South Bay. Chet was invited to take the lead. As he stepped into the role, the church entered a period of transformation. It was eventually renamed Calvary LIFE, reflecting a renewed mission. Chet’s leadership helped guide the church into its next chapter, built around four key values: Learning the Word, Investing in Relationships, Following the Way of Christ Jesus, and Engaging Our World.

Today, Chet and Andrea live in San Pedro, California, where they continue to lead Calvary LIFE. Their focus remains on faithfulness, discipleship, and service.

Ministry That Goes Beyond Sunday

Chet’s vision for ministry has always extended beyond the church's walls. Calvary LIFE actively serves the local community through various outreach efforts. “Feed His Hope” provides food and supplies to those experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. “Jesus Loves Fig” is a ministry that fights human trafficking in the Figueroa Corridor. The church also participates in prison outreach, beach ministry, and ongoing volunteer efforts throughout the city.

Internationally, Chet’s work continues. He has served in South Korea, Brazil, El Salvador, and the Bahamas. Calvary LIFE supports over 30 missionary projects across the globe, continuing a lifelong commitment to international outreach.

Pastor Chet Lowe remains closely involved in discipleship and biblical counseling. His approach centers on being available, walking with people through life, and helping them find clarity, hope, and direction rooted in Scripture.

At home, family continues to be a top priority. Chet and Andrea have raised a large, blended family of biological and adopted children. Their foster care and adoption advocacy is spoken from the pulpit and lived out in their home.

Marking Years with Purpose

In 2025, several milestones will be observed. It marks 30 years since Chet and Andrea moved to Liberia. Calvary LIFE reaches its 45th year. Patmos celebrates two decades of ministry. It also marks 10 years since the release of Living Parable, Chet’s autobiography. Still, for Chet, these milestones serve only as reminders of what God has already done—not as reasons to slow down.

What matters most to him is the future. He remains focused on the next opportunity to help someone, the next chance to offer hope, and the next call to serve.

For Chet Lowe, the ministry is not about achievements. It’s about being available. And he continues to say yes to God, the mission, and the people.
